As you would imagine, this type of care can vary. During an assessment I’ll ask many specific questions concerning your current state and your goals. I will want to see how you move to provide a holistic, full body assessment. I will likely advise movement techniques and/or exercises. I will guide you through any uncertain movements. I might recommend tools. My main goal will be to educate you on Pelvic Floor anatomy, how it relates to your symptoms, and how it affects your daily life.
Consent is #1. I never assess anything without your permission. Assessment always depends on physical & emotional tolerance.
It can include, but is not limited to, observation of the vulva, palpation of the outside muscles layers and one finger digital palpation placed intra-vaginally. I will guide you through muscle contraction and relaxation techniques to see how your tissue responds.
It’s not required, but it can provide feedback regarding the quality of muscle function, pressure management and help to interpret patients pain experience.
It can evaluate the function, strength, and coordination of the pelvic floor muscles supporting the rectum and anus. This procedure involves a gentle, lubricated finger examination to assess muscle tone, response, and the presence of abnormalities, contributing to coccyx pain or other pelvic floor dysfunctions.
I do not directly work with insurance. I find that I can provide better quality care without the restraints of insurance reimbursement. I will provide a superbill at the end of your treatment that you may use for potential reimbursement from your insurance provider.
No, you do not need a referral to begin care in the state of California, as it is a direct access state.
